Experience Paducah’s riverfront from a new perspective! The River Discovery center in Paducah, Kentucky is full of fun exhibits for kids of all ages. Learn about the wildlife in and around our rivers, as well as boats, barges and more. Water lovers can see the river in a personal way with the river film or boat simulator. Some exhibits are not yet reopened due to COVID-19, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had at the River Discovery Center. Admission is $5 for children and $8 for adults.

Maggie’s Jungle Golf in Marshall County is a full-size mini golf course with an added bonus of a Jungle run–perfect for an afternoon of fun! Walk or ride while you visit all the animals–the camels are my personal favorite. Don’t forget to stop by the snow cone booth between golf runs and get a yummy treat! Mini golf is $4 per person and the Jungle Run is $2 per person. You can rent a cart for the Jungle run for an additional $8. Be aware: Maggie’s only accepts cash or checks.

When children interact with learning activities, those things become real to them. We can’t wait for the beauty of Western Kentucky to become real to you and your children while you learn and create. Finding things to do with young children can be hard, but we hope this list makes that job a little easier.

Dr. Marcie Hinton

Public relations scholar and professor, Dr. Marcie Hinton ponders the intersection of writing and action. From grassroots communication efforts to a student discovering the power of the written word, she lives to sort out the wreckage at that intersection. In the classroom, she uses writing exercises and case studies to make her points, but her favorite thing to do is take students to places like London to compare British mass media models to American counterparts. While in London, she takes students on Harry Potter’s journey from books and movies to theme parks and merchandising. Her scholarship and professional service is a mix of grassroots public relations, Martha Gellhorn’s war-torn travel writing and promoting the arts. She reads magazines, books and cookbooks, but takes special interest in travel essays and pasta recipes.

Her latest work is in the form of a case studies book called "Applied Public Relations: Cases in Stakeholder Management," which she co-authored with Dr. Kathy Brittain Richardson.
