Five Instagrammable Spots in Murray, Kentucky

Five Instagrammable Spots in Murray, Kentucky

Grace Rapp

Need to elevate your Instagram or capture some photos with friends? Murray, Kentucky, home of the Racers, has some Instagrammable gems! Exploring Murray is such an incredible opportunity to see why it is the “friendliest small town” in America. The people of Murray make it so special and by exploring Instagrammable destinations, you will experience the beautiful community that nearly 19,000 people call home.

To me, Instagram is more than a social sharing app. It is a digital scrapbook, where you can share your life in little squares with your friends and have a place to go back and relive happy moments. Here are five of my favorite place in Murray to grab a quick Instagram photo:

1. Pagliai's Pizza & Italian Restaurant Pink Wall

A hidden treasure in Murray is this vibrant two-toned wall located on the east side of Pagliai’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant. Perfect for a girly photoshoot or even a vibrant headshot. If the bright pink isn’t your thing, check out the exquisite turquoise wall located next to it! While you are there, head inside to grab a delicious pizza or pasta meal.

ADDRESS: 970 Chestnut St, Murray, KY 42071

2. Bull Pen Steak and Spirits Doors

These French chestnut doors are some of the most instagrammable on the square. In the heart of downtown, this vacant restaurant is within walking distance of many local businesses. BullPen Steak and Spirits opened their doors in 2001 and closed for good about five years later. While this building has remained empty all these years, they sure do have some classy, instagramable doors!

ADDRESS: 104 S 5th St, Murray, KY 42071

3. Murray Main Street Imagination Alley

This colorful alley located next door to the Bull Pen building is a unique place to accentuate a simple outfit with some color. This alley is a unique place for children in Murray to explore their creativity. The pop of color at this location is the most ideal location for an artsy Instagram post. Imagination Alley is within walking distance of many downtown shops and restaurants to explore.

4. Wilson Hall Front Steps

Wilson Hall, home of the JMC department, was named after James F. Wilson. As the second oldest building on campus, the first Racer basketball game was hosted here as it housed the gymnasium, library, agriculture department and bookstore. Journalism and Mass Communications, Organizational Communications and the Graphic Communications Management Department students attend their classes within the walls of Wilson Hall. The steps are a staple in Murray for photos as the building is one of the most historic in the area.

5. Murray State University Quad

The quad is one of the most beautiful parts of Murray State University. Historic buildings surround the shoe tree and open green spaces. Legend has it that the Murray State Shoe Tree is said to have good luck to a couple who meets at Murray State and tie their shoes on said tree. Some couples will write their anniversaries or even tie baby shoes on the tree. The quad is a must-visit Instagramable destination if you are looking to showcase the heart and “sole” of the Murray State campus.

Dr. Marcie Hinton

Public relations scholar and professor, Dr. Marcie Hinton ponders the intersection of writing and action. From grassroots communication efforts to a student discovering the power of the written word, she lives to sort out the wreckage at that intersection. In the classroom, she uses writing exercises and case studies to make her points, but her favorite thing to do is take students to places like London to compare British mass media models to American counterparts. While in London, she takes students on Harry Potter’s journey from books and movies to theme parks and merchandising. Her scholarship and professional service is a mix of grassroots public relations, Martha Gellhorn’s war-torn travel writing and promoting the arts. She reads magazines, books and cookbooks, but takes special interest in travel essays and pasta recipes.

Her latest work is in the form of a case studies book called "Applied Public Relations: Cases in Stakeholder Management," which she co-authored with Dr. Kathy Brittain Richardson.
